"Collaborative Law", as it is known, began more than ten years ago in North America but only reached this country in 2004. In the collaborative process the couple, each represented by specially trained lawyers, agree in writing to reach a settlement without court involvement and to work together, in a series of face-to-face meetings, to resolve children and financial matters resulting from their separation. The overall aim is to reach a fair solution in a dignified manner which may minimise costs for the separating family.
