Divorce Vouchers are not the answer
24 December 2009
Experienced family lawyers know that the decision to issue a divorce is one for the client and not the solicitor. Offering divorce vouchers, as one London law firm has done, is not the answer.
People move at their own pace. One person may have had matrimonial problems for years and simply put up with the situation. Another may want advice immediately after they discover their spouse’s affair.
A person faced with relationship stress will also go through a range of emotions, sadness, frustration, anger, guilt and jealousy, amongst others. They will decide when the time is right to explore their options.
Specialist divorce solicitor, Tony Roe, says, “Those with marital problems face enough stress as it is, even more so at Christmas and New Year, without someone buying them a divorce voucher. Any potential client contacting my firm gets to speak to a family lawyer over the telephone. When we see them, we offer confidential and sensitive tailored advice and examine their options. It is then the client who decides what, if anything, they might want to do”.
