World Cup Relationship Tips by Tony Roe
11 June 2010
Bought a new TV for the World Cup? If you don’t want to lose it in a divorce settlement, pay attention to your relationship, not just the football.
Amidst the empty lager cans and pizza boxes, you might be flying the cross of St George and praying for the cross of Wayne Rooney, but avoid making your partner cross with you.
Here are a few tips so you don’t find yourself relegated or getting a transfer this World Cup:
1. Remember that relationships, just like football, are a game of two halves.
2. What the commentator says is crucial but so is communication between you and your partner.
3. Don’t let booze cause a problem. According to the Home Office, 32% of incidents of intimate partner violence were committed when the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol.
4. Make the football a family occasion.
5. Be romantic: take an early bath together.
6. If you do have a fall out, don’t assume all is lost. Speak to Relate before you speak to a lawyer, www.relate.org.uk.
